In the below guest op-ed for New Statesman, CARR Senior Fellow Dr Bharath Ganesh talks about the exploitation of social media by the extreme right and what practical actions social media platforms (such Facebook) can do in order to stop this. In it, he suggests that:
“The rapid growth of hate and extremism on these platforms demands a reassessment of their moral and ethical responsibilities and investment in anticipating risks at the earliest stages of product design rather than continuing to react to these challenges after they emerge.”
