CARR 2020 Conference: Notice of Cancellation

  • William Allchorn
  • March 23, 2020

Dear CARR conference delegates and friends,

On behalf of the Steering Committee, it is with great regret that we write to inform you of the postponement of our May 2020 conference at Tec de Monterrey in Mexico for what we hope will take place in 2021. This decision has been exhaustively discussed and has not been taken lightly. It follows a growing consensus relating to large gatherings at this time, and reflects our feeling of responsibility as organisers to avoid hosting a meeting that could act as a further vector of transmission for the Coronavirus. At the same time, we recognise the importance of continuing our collective work, not least in the face of radical right attempts to appropriate this crisis (an excellent insight to this emergent issue was contributed by our newest Fellow, Dr Julia deCook, and hosted by openDemocracy last week: www.radicalrightanalysis.com/2020/03/19/coronavirus-and-the-radical-right-conspiracy-disinformation-and-xenophobia/).

We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause you, especially if you have made bookings or sent any conference registration fees (the latter of which will of course be refunded in full). We will automatically accept papers and panels already submitted for the 2020 CARR annual conference for next year’s iteration. In the meantime please look after yourselves, and each other.

Warmest wishes,

The CARR 2020 Conference Organising Committee
