A short film about the rise of the global anti-gender movement and why it must be countered
Over the course of the past year, I have been collaborating with the Norwegian Student’s and Academics International Assistance Fund (SAIH) in an effort to raise awareness of the global ‘anti-gender’ movement. SAIH supports the academic freedom of students and scholars around the world, particularly those at risk.
Over the course of the past few years, a number of Gender Studies scholars have found themselves and their field under attack by the anti-progressive ‘anti-gender movement’. In its efforts to block and oppose advances in sex and gender based rights, the movement is also working to attack and discredit forms of knowledge that have historically supported advocacy for reproductive justice and LGBTIQ+ rights.
This short film addresses the damaging effects of the anti-gender movement, and why it is important that we counter this movement. The film follows a report that was launched in March 2020 about the anti-gender movement and its attacks on women’s reproductive rights and LGBTIQ+ rights, as well as the academic freedom of Gender Studies as an academic field.
