Sean Arbuthnot

Local Prevent Co-ordinator & Training Consultant.

Specialist Research Areas: UK Prevent Duty, Radicalisation, Extremism, CVE, Counterterrorism

Sean Arbuthnot is a Prevent Duty specialist. He is an experienced training consultant and a local Prevent Coordinator for Leicestershire. As a former police detective he fulfilled a number of frontline, specialist and supervisory roles over a 12-year career in Northern Ireland and the Midlands.

Sean is a practitioner with extensive experience of supporting vulnerable individuals who were at risk of various types of extremism, including many with far-right inspired ideologies. As a local Prevent Coordinator he retains an up-to-date knowledge of this complex field as he provides strategic management and support for local Prevent activity, community engagement and outreach projects.

He has contributed to various media outlets on the subjects of Prevent, radicalisation and far right extremism including BBC World, Victoria LIVE, BBC5Live and The Economist.

He has a Masters with Distinction in Conflict Resolution from Lancaster University.

Specialist areas:

UK Prevent Duty; Channel programme; counter-extremism, British values; practical experience of supporting vulnerable individuals through Prevent.
