PhD Research Fellow in Sociology at University of Bergen

There is a vacancy for a PhD position at the Department of Sociology. The position is for a fixed-term period of 4 years, of which 25% will be dedicated to teaching, supervision and administrative tasks at the Department.

A research proposal of 5-8 pages must accompany the application. The proposal should present the topic, the research problem(s) and choice of theory and methods. The proposal should also include a progress plan for the different parts of the project. A budget of running costs should be included. Admittance to the PhD-program will be based on the research proposal.

PhD research fellowship in Political Science at University of Oslo

The Department of Political Science hereby announces two vacant positions as PhD Research Fellow. The persons appointed may choose between a three year-appointment with no teaching requirement, or an appointment for a period of four years with a 25 per cent teaching requirement. In the Department of Political Science teaching is organized into five sections: public policy and administration, comparative politics, political theory, international politics, and research methods. Candidates will be part of the Faculty’s PhD programme and the work performed will be expected to lead to a PhD in Political Science.

Applicants must submit a project description of up to 3000 words outlining the research topic, the specific problems to be studied, the sources of data to be used, the choice of scientific theory and method, and a realistic schedule that details how the project will be completed within the fellowship period.

Doctoral Student in Computational Social Science at Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences

Starting on 1 November 2018.

The position to be filled is part of the project “What Do ‘the People’ Want? Analysing Online Populist Challenges to Europe” funded by the VolkswagenStiftung.

Your tasks will be:

  • Research on the political use of digital media by citizens and populist actors in multiple European countries, in particular in the context of the European Parliament election 2019
  • Collection, processing and quantitative analysis of various data types (surveys, web tracking, social media)
  • Writing a doctoral thesis in a dynamic team and with innovative data

Post-doctoral fellow at Center for Research on Extremism (C-REX), University of Oslo

Applications are invited from excellent candidates in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Law interested in doing high quality research on right-wing extremism or hate crime, including topics such as violent mobilization, behavior and imaginaries, or support for undemocratic means and attitudes.

Applicants must relate their project to one or several of the center’s research profile (see the center’s website).

Moreover, the center is particularly interested in projects based upon quantitative data. In terms of geographical scope, the project should include one or several European countries.

The appointment is for a fixed, non-tenured term of 3 years. The appointee will have no teaching requirements.
